At Greystanes High School technology is valued in teaching and learning.
Technology plays an increasingly important role in our lives, and students who are offfered the opportunity to use technology in appropriate and relevant ways to support their learning are better prepared for the future.
At Greystanes High in 2020 the schedule for bringing your own device (BYOD) will be:
Year 7 and Year 11
All Year 7s and 11s are expected to bring their own device from the start of the 2020 school year. The student agreement must be returned prior to connecting to our school network.
Years 8 to 10 and Year 12
These students can bring their own device from Term 1 Week 1 2020 as long as the student agreeement has been returned.
It is not currently mandatory for any student in Years 8, 9, 10 and 12 (except those in 8S) to have a device of their own. Students in these years will not be disadvantaged if they do not have their own personal device. Classes will have access to notebooks and school desktops.
Devices will not replace other means of instruction or other resources used in the classroom and it is not envisaged that students will be using devices all the time. The use of technology in learning will be at the discretion of classroom teachers and will vary accordingly. Additionally, a student and/or parent/guardian is solely responsible for the care and maintenance of a device brought to and used at school.
Students bring a device at their own risk and the school assumes no responsibility for its theft or damage. More details will be found in the Charter which will be handed out with the Student Agreement.
Students who do bring a device will have access to a range of software from the Department of Education including the Office suite and Adobe at no or minimal cost. In addition, free online software such as Google Apps For Education (GAFE), which many students currently utlise in their learning, is available for student use.
