Co-curricular activities

Gifted students are those whose potential is distinictly above average in one or more of the following areas of ability at school – intellectual, creative, social and physical.

Our gifted and talented program provides these students with learning opportunities on top of the normal curriculum.

Debating

Our school has debating as an extracurricular activity to build up our students' public speaking skills, confidence and broaden their horizons about world issues. The debating teams at Greystanes High School consist of a junior team (Year 7 to 8) and a senior team (Year 9 to 10). Our debating teams participate in many competitions and gala days. The two major competitions are the Western Sydney Debating Challenge and the Premier's Debating Challenge.

Members of the debating teams are rotated among debates so that all members are given an opportunity to display their skills. Debaters are challenged to compose their arguments during a one-hour preparation and also present their rebuttals thinking on their feet. Many of our team members have been commended by adjudicators for their excellent matter, method and manner.

At Greystanes the debating teams comprise many dedicated members who are talented and demonstrate the ability to present succinct arguments. Some of our members have been selected to participate in the state debating teams as well.

Media group

The media group is a team of students with skills in using graphic programs, art materials, photographic equipment and digital media.  Students record school assemblies, functions and events both in and out of school hours.

Students in the media group use their talents to take photographs, create posters and multimedia presentations. Students enjoy learning new skills and build upon existing ones to create projects and source materials which will be used for school promotion, events, and presentations.

Art club

Art club meets one afternoon a week between 3-4 pm. Play around with different materials, learn new skills, develop techniques, get creative and have fun!

If you want to know more, see the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) staffroom in G block.

Greystanes High School Vocal Group

The vocal group is an ensemble for students with a particular interest in singing.  Being part of the vocal group builds on skills and confidence and gives students the opportunity to socialise with like minded peers across different year groups.  The vocalists practise new repertoire for various performances within the school and in the wider community.  All students are welcome and there are no auditions to join.

Robotics Club

The Greystanes High School robotics club is an extracurricular club that gives students the opportunity to work with some of our newest tools and equipment in the develop their understanding of STEM and Robotics. It aims to promote interest in STEM oriented learning, and students are challenged in multiple ways to provide solutions to problems. The club is offered to a limited number of year 8 students currently, and meets on Tuesday afternoons, and students are able to use our Artec Robotics kits, some of which were kindly sponsored to our school by Edutech Australia (https://www.facebook.com/EduTech-Australia-2062905...). The club is a fantastic opportunity for students who are interested in STEM, making, robots, DIY, tinkering, or inventing their own cool stuff!
