Students who select the Preliminary and HSC (Higher School Certificate) Visual Arts course complete 200 hours of visual arts across Years 11 and 12.
During Year 11 students are taught a range of skills to refine their artmaking abilities. The study of a wide range of artists is used to support their art making ability, knowledge of art history and the art world. The course focus is on technique development to enhance art making practice.
During year 12 students are expected to develop and complete an independent Body of Work to be submitted for their HSC practical assessment. Students will study a range of artists in topic based case studies to prepare them for their written HSC examination. Students are expected to use problem solving, critical thinking and creative skills. Students are encouraged to participate, to respect each others' views, to visually communicate explored themes, and their own ideas.
Students are required to explore their Body of Work concept through manipulating materials and experimentation. All work is recorded in a Visual Arts diary and theory journal including classwork, artist studies and documentation of their own artworks, ideas and reflective evaluations.
